The solution: RESCUE!!

It's great to network with people around the country, but it really helps to have at least ONE person locally who will help you investigate, report, leaflet, table, protest, or do anything else you want that will help fight the cruelty caused by your local animal-selling pet stores. Below are some of the groups that have contacted us about their protests; there are others.

NEW September 2008: We just learned of a website under construction that will be a great resource--www.peacefulprotests.org, hosted by www.caninescorner.org. Learn more about how to expose the cruelty of pet stores, and list your own event on the calendar!

2008: Los Angeles area--
A resident of this area says that there are puppy stores on Western Ave. between Olympic and Venice and that a lot of work needs to be done in terms of informing Spanish- and Korean-speaking people in low-income neighborhoods about spaying and neutering their companion animals, caring for these animals humanely, and adopting animals rather than buying puppy mill puppies from pet stores. To help, especially if you can translate information into Spanish or Korean, please contact vegannancipants@yahoo.com.

2008: A coalition of groups has been protesting weekly for 15 weeks at POSH PUPPIES in Los Angeles, and on April 5, 2008, they announced that Posh Puppies is no longer selling puppies there! They are now (June 2008) turning their attention to PETS OF BEL AIR, the focus of a recent undercover investigation by the Humane Society of the United States. Protests are every Saturday from 11-4. Stephanie Henshaw- 913.221.3662 shenshaw@everestkc.net

Saturday, October 11, 2008 will be the last puppy mill/pet store protest for this year. We will be meeting in the parking lot kitty corner from Petland in Olathe, KS. 13155 S Mur-Len Road Olathe, KS 66062 (This is the address of the parking lot we will meet in before the protest) This is in front of the Office Depot on Santa Fe and Mur-Len. Please meet at 10:30 am. We will protest from 11 am- 1 pm.

We have had a great turnout and lots of support this year. This last protest is VERY IMPORTANT. We need to make a HUGE impact to end the year. I have been working with PETA on a demo we will be doing in conjunction with the normal protest. There will be headstones with dog's names on them along with DOB and death. I will also have a grim reaper costume that someone will be wearing to stand next to the gravestones. This will be focusing on several issues- spay and neuter, adoption vs. purchasing. Below is a brief explanation: These headstones represent as many as 8 million animals that are abandoned in animal shelters each year in the U.S.-half of whom are put to death because of a lack of good homes.

We hope these gravestones will remind people of how deadly serious this issue is for animals and shame breeders who continue to bring more animals into a nation already bursting at the seams with unwanted animals. Dogs and cats are literally dying for homes while breeders continue to breed animals for profit. Each and every one of us can save lives by never buying an animal from a pet store or breeder and always getting our animals spayed and neutered. A press release will be issued to the media discussing this, so I am expecting them to come. Please forward this so we can get a large group of individuals to attend this. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS A PEACEFUL PROTEST!! I am pleased to announce that our web site is up and running. (Still going through improvements) Feel free to visit it www.puppymillprisoners.org. I want to extend a special thanks to Ricky Setticase, PETA, Humane Society of the United States, Best Friends, Animal Outreach of Kansas, Topeka Animal Talk, Spay and Neuter Kansas City, and all of the other people that have a love for animals and care to make a difference like I do. I could not have done it without you.

Subject: This Saturday 1/10/09- Demonstration against Bird Paradise See how birds suffer in captivity! A bird is not a "pet"
WHAT: Peaceful Demonstration against Bird Paradise
WHEN: Saturday, January 10, 2008 from 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
WHERE: Public right of way in front of Bird Paradise, 551 E Rt. 130 S, Burlington, NJ 08016 Our campaign continues! Join us for our tenth demonstration against Bird Paradise!
***Every year thousands of birds are sold by one of the largest bird stores in the nation: Bird Paradise. Pet store birds are deprived of their natural environment and often imprisoned in cages. Even the most well intentioned person cannot provide for the needs of any bird. Bird Paradise brags about having thousands of birds for sale. On their own Web site, they claim they are the "World's Largest Bird Store". Let's tell them that profiting from the exploitation of birds is not something to be proud of.
*** We love your kids, both human and non-human, but please leave them at home. We demonstrate on the public right-of-way which is adjacent to Route 130, a busy highway. It's safe, but not recommended for the little ones. Thanks for your cooperation! To see video of actual bird mills, visit http://www.projectperry.com/birdmills.html Signs and leaflets are provided. Parking is available on the side streets next to Bird Paradise. Please do not drive/walk through Bird Paradise's parking lot or grass lot. Contact: justroar@comcast.net or visit www.BoycottBirdParadise.com for more information. If you cannot attend the demonstration but would still like to help birds, please take a minute to send an email to the local papers. Ask them to cover the demo. And feel free to add your thoughts about keeping birds in captivity, profiting from breeding, etc...Courier Post: cpmetro@courierpostonline.com

**BIG** Holiday Event to Help Animals
WHEN: Saturday, December 20, 2008 from 12:00PM to 4:00PM
WHERE: Meet up at Monster Pets' South Philly, 1946 South Columbus Blvd., Phila. PA 19146

We will then split the group and carpool some advocates to the West Philly Monster Pets.

FUN, FUN, FUN!!! FAMILY FRIENDLY: This is a family friendly event! The atmosphere will be peaceful and calm. Bring the kids, the grandparents and even the next door neighbor! The more, the merrier!

DOGGIE PICTURES WITH SANTA: Santa will be joining us, so bring your dogs for a photo with the jolly old guy!

VEGAN DINNER PARTY: After the events, we will be hosting a delicious dinner at a local vegan restaurant! $20 per person - all you can eat!! You must attend the holiday event for information.

WHO: The Companion Animal Protection Society (CAPS), the only national nonprofit dedicated exclusively to protecting companion animals. Puppy Mill Awareness Day, a group that just held its fifth annual event in Lancaster PA, to bring to light the horrible conditions of puppy mills and their connection to pet stores. The Boycott Monster Pets Campaign, a local grassroots group that holds weekly pet store awareness outreach events at both the South Philadelphia and West Philadelphia Monster Pets' locations. Along with these groups many other animal advocacy groups will be demonstrating at pet stores throughout the U.S. and Canada.

WHAT: A rally against pet shops that sell puppy mill puppies. Local animal advocates will distribute information about the horrific puppy mill industry and what consumers can do this holiday season to break the cycle of abuse.

WHY: Pet shops sell more puppies during the weekend before Christmas than at any other time of year. The participating groups want to alert consumers to the problems associated with purchasing a puppy from pet shops such as:
. Most pet shops obtain puppies from puppy mills, inhumane breeding establishments, in the Midwest and Pennsylvania.
. Many puppies are ill or incubating an illness at the time of purchase. Puppies commonly die or must be euthanized.
. Pet shops usually charge very high prices for puppies, thereby earning huge profits.
. Pet shops provide registration documents, but registration, such as with the American Kennel Club (AKC) or the American Canine Association (ACA) does not guarantee health, quality or breed standard.
. Pet shops usually treat animals as merchandise that can easily be returned for a refund or exchange. Warranties often preclude reimbursement for veterinary bills.

Signs and flyers will be provided. Parking is convenient and accessible. Remember to dress for the cold weather! For more information, please visit www.BoycottMonsterPets.com or email BoycottMonsterPets@yahoo.com.

Additional information: I am putting together a protest at Puppy World this spring. Puppy World is a pet store in Greenfield, WI (Milwaukee area) that sells puppies. I have contacted the Greenfield Police Department in advance, now all I need is for all you animal rights activists and animal lovers to attend the protest and help spread our message. The protest will take place on south 27th street sidewalk, in April. I will post more information as the date gets closer. Please contact me in advance and let me know if you are interested in joining the protest. I would like to get an approx. head count of how many of us there will be. This will be a peaceful protest; obviously we can't spread the word about pet stores and puppy mills if we are not allowed to be there! PLease contact me and join the fight against the cruelty of puppy mills and the pet stores who keep them thriving!

We protestors understand that our protest at Puppy World Pet Store in Greenfield, WI is to remain a peaceful one. We understand that the Greenfield Police Department has strick guidelines for us and that we are to follow those guidelines or we will not be allowed to protest any longer. We want to spread our message to the public and we understand we cannot do that if we are not allowed to be there so we will follow these guidelines:

We will ONLY protest on the sidewalk of south 27th street. We understand that this is public property.

We will NOT stand in front of the Puppy World Pet store. We understand this is private property.

We will NOT stand in the parking lot. We understand this is private property.
We will NOT leaflet cars, we understand this is NOT allowed.

We will NOT stand on Layton Avenue, we understand this is a traffic hazard.

We will NOT block driveways or any other area the public is trying to access.

We will NOT force literature upon anyone, we will ONLY offer it.

We will NOT create any disturbances OR cause any complaints to arise.

We understand that if there are complaints about us we have to leave.

We will NOT scare away the public, instead we will appear aproachable so they can ask us questions or find out why we are here.

We WANT to share our information with the public. We will NOT use foul language or profanity. After all, we would not do that anyway because we want to be taken seriously.

We WILL however, tell the public about the cruelty of pet stores and the puppy mill industry.

We WILL let the media know something needs to be done about the laws regarding this industry.

We WILL have signs that show the public what puppy mills are like. We WILL offer literature that is educational about pet stores and puppy mills to the public.

We WILL be heard!

We are protesting Puppy World in Greenfield WI on the sidewalk of south 27th street on Saturday, April 19th from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

"These dogs did nothing to deserve this suffering. They were only born. They were born to live their entire lives in a tiny cage. Born to breed heat after heat. Born to suffer from illness without medical treatment. Born to starve and go thirsty. Born for a life of misery so humans can make a greedy dollar. These dogs don't know what grass is, what a loving hand feels like, or even know how to play. Are you really going to turn away and ignore their suffering? Make a difference for these animals' lives. Tell Wisconsin you do not want puppy mills operating and selling to pet stores that keep them thriving. Protest with us at Petland in Pewaukee this spring."
